What changes the price

- Front or rear
- Front brakes do most of the work and wear faster. Doing both axles at once costs more than one, but saves a second visit.
- Pads only, or pads and rotors
- If the rotors are still within the manufacturer's tolerance, pads alone will do. If they are too thin, warped or scored, they have to be replaced too — which changes the bill significantly.
- The vehicle
- A compact, a heavy SUV and a performance car need neither the same parts nor the same amount of labour. Some European models also require an electronic parking brake reset.
- Parts quality
- Original equipment, quality equivalent, or budget: the gap is real, and it is one reason two quotes can look very different. Always ask what is being fitted.
- What turns up during the job
- A seized caliper, a corroded brake line or a noisy bearing cannot be seen from the parking lot. A good garage calls you before adding anything.
When an inspection is needed
If you hear a noise but cannot tell where it comes from, or the pedal feels different, ask for a brake inspection rather than a specific part. The garage measures pad and rotor thickness and tells you what is actually needed. You can do that from the form by choosing "I'm not sure".

How often do brake pads need replacing?
It depends far more on how you drive than on mileage. Stop-and-go city driving wears brakes much faster than highway kilometres. Rather than a number, go by the symptoms and by a measurement taken during an inspection.
Can I replace only the pads?
Yes, if the rotors are still within the manufacturer's tolerance. That is a measurement, not an opinion — the garage checks thickness and surface condition. Be wary of an answer given without looking.
Is it dangerous to drive on worn brakes?
A light squeal usually means the wear indicator is doing its job, so it is time to book the work. Grinding, heavy vibration or a pedal that sinks needs checking promptly.
