Get a car repair estimate from local garages

Tell us the vehicle and what needs attention, and we put the job in front of garages near you. You get their prices — not an average, not a calculator’s guess, but what actual shops would charge for your car.

What changes the price

We do not publish an average price: we do not yet have enough real data to give an honest one. Here is what makes up the bill instead.

The vehicle
Parts prices differ by model, and so does the labour time to reach them. The same repair on two cars is two different jobs.
Parts grade
Original-manufacturer, quality aftermarket and budget parts can differ severalfold. A cheaper estimate is sometimes a cheaper part.
The shop rate
Hourly rates vary between garages and between a dealer and an independent. The hours are the other half of the same multiplication.
What has to come apart
Corrosion after Québec winters, seized fasteners and components in the way. The most common reason an estimate arrives as a range.

Why we do not give you a number on this page

Because we would have to invent it. An online calculator produces a figure from averages across other people’s cars, and it does not know your year, your mileage, how corroded the fasteners are, or what a garage in your city charges per hour. It would be a number you could not act on, and you would find out how wrong it was at the counter.

What an estimate actually contains

A useful one names the parts and their grade, the labour hours, the shop rate, and what is excluded. Two estimates hundreds of dollars apart are usually quoting two different jobs — and comparing the scope tells you more than comparing the totals.

Fixed price, range, or inspect first

These are three genuinely different answers and we show you which you have. A fixed price should hold for the work described. A range means the shop can see the job could go two ways. "We need to look at it" is the honest answer for a symptom with several possible causes, and it is more trustworthy than a confident figure that changes later.

How to get an estimate worth having

The more specific you are, the less a garage has to pad. Year, make, model and trim if you know it. What you notice, in your own words, and when it happens. How long it has been going on. Any diagnosis or quote you already have.

What a garage needs to know

  • The year, make and model — and the trim or engine if you know it
  • What needs attention, described in your own words
  • When it happens: cold, hot, braking, turning, at speed
  • How long it has been going on, and whether it is getting worse
  • Any estimate or diagnosis you already have

Common questions

Is this a repair cost calculator?

No, and deliberately so. A calculator would give you a figure invented from other people’s cars. We put your job in front of real garages and bring you their prices instead, which is the number you can actually act on.

How long does it take to get estimates?

It depends on how quickly garages reply, and we do not promise a time we do not control. You can see the status of your request at any point, including which garages have answered.

Does it cost anything?

No. Describing the repair and receiving quotes is free, and there is no obligation to book with anybody.

Do I have to know what is wrong with the car?

No. If you only know the symptom, describe that — a garage can quote you for diagnosing it. Guessing at a repair you are not sure about can produce an estimate for the wrong work.

Will the final bill match the estimate?

A fixed quote should hold for the work described. A range or an inspection-first answer is telling you the final figure depends on what the garage finds, and we show you which kind you have rather than blurring them together.

An online figure is a reference point. A garage quote for your own vehicle is an answer. Start with the vehicle and the symptom, and let shops near you tell you what they would charge.

What we don't promise

We don't guarantee a number of offers, a response time, or a saving. We pass your request to garages and show you what they say. If nothing comes back, we'll tell you.
