What does a seasonal tire change cost?
The changeover is one of the few predictable annual costs of running a car in Canada, and one where the quoted price depends almost entirely on one question.

What changes the price
We do not publish an average price: we do not yet have enough real data to give an honest one. Here is what makes up the bill instead.
- On their own rims or not
- A second set already mounted on rims is a wheel swap and takes a fraction of the time. Dismounting and remounting tyres on one set of rims is a different job at a different price.
- Wheel size
- Large low-profile tyres are harder to mount without damage and need more care. That shows up in the labour.
- Balancing and TPMS
- Balancing is often included, sometimes not. Tyre-pressure sensors may need a service kit or reprogramming, which some quotes list separately.
- When you book
- The weeks around a winter-tyre deadline are the busiest of the year. Availability is part of what you are comparing, not just price.
When an inspection is needed
The changeover is a good moment to have the brakes looked at, since the wheels are already off. Ask whether an inspection is included.

Common questions
Why do you not publish an average price?
Because it would be made up. We have no marketplace data yet, and a national average would be wrong for your vehicle in your city anyway. A number we cannot stand behind is worse than none: you would negotiate against it and we would have to defend it. What we can give you is real quotes for your actual car.
Are winter tires required where I live?
It depends on the province. Québec requires them from 1 December to 15 March. British Columbia requires winter or M+S tyres on many designated highways from 1 October to 30 April. Ontario does not require them, though insurers must offer a discount if you fit them.
How do I compare two quotes properly?
Check that they cover the same work: the same parts quality, the same number of wheels or components, whether labour and taxes are included, and what happens if something seizes once it is apart. Two quotes hundreds of dollars apart are often quoting two different jobs.
Tell us whether your tires are on rims and we will pass that to garages — it is the detail that decides the price.

What we don't promise
We don't guarantee a number of offers, a response time, or a saving. We pass your request to garages and show you what they say. If nothing comes back, we'll tell you.
