What does a wheel alignment cost?

Alignment is one of the cheaper things on this site and one of the most often sold when it is not needed — and skipped when it is.

What changes the price

We do not publish an average price: we do not yet have enough real data to give an honest one. Here is what makes up the bill instead.

Two wheels or four
A front-only alignment is cheaper. A four-wheel alignment is necessary on most modern cars with independent rear suspension.
Whether anything is adjustable
Some vehicles have limited factory adjustment, and correcting them properly needs additional parts. That turns a quick job into a real one.
What caused the misalignment
If a pothole bent a component, aligning the car without replacing it will not hold. A quote should say whether anything was found bent.

When an inspection is needed

Uneven tyre wear, a car pulling to one side or an off-centre steering wheel are the honest reasons to align. Mileage alone is not one.

Common questions

Why do you not publish an average price?

Because it would be made up. We have no marketplace data yet, and a national average would be wrong for your vehicle in your city anyway. A number we cannot stand behind is worse than none: you would negotiate against it and we would have to defend it. What we can give you is real quotes for your actual car.

Do I need an alignment after new tires?

Not automatically. It is worth doing if the old tyres wore unevenly, if the car pulls, or if suspension work was done — otherwise new tyres alone are not a reason.

How do I compare two quotes properly?

Check that they cover the same work: the same parts quality, the same number of wheels or components, whether labour and taxes are included, and what happens if something seizes once it is apart. Two quotes hundreds of dollars apart are often quoting two different jobs.

Describe how the car tracks and what the tyres look like, and compare the offers.

What we don't promise

We don't guarantee a number of offers, a response time, or a saving. We pass your request to garages and show you what they say. If nothing comes back, we'll tell you.
